A large scale, site specific installation designed, conceived and built in collaboration with Aya Arden. Membranous Labyrinth was housed underneath Hackney Downs railway and was open from March to April 2013.
We started with a recording of me discussing some of my most memorable experiences as a doctor. We then built a labyrinth out of steel and industrial polythene to create a mindscape for participants to walk through, whilst an edited and distorted version of the recording echoed throughout the walls. We also shot hospital footage on Super 8mm and projected the edited results onto the walls.
The installation explored themes of trauma and mortality and provoked strong reactions from visitors.
